College students gain valuable experience at Spennymoor development

Students from Bishop Auckland College visited our development site at Towson Close, Spennymoor to gain real-life experience in the construction industry.

Supported by our Livin Futures team and Oaktree Living, the bricklaying students took a tour of the site and observed various stages of the construction process, from the initial groundwork to roof installation. Real-life experiences such as this allow students to gain a better understanding of the job, helping them make the best decisions for their future.

Lucas Carswell, Bricklaying student at Bishop Auckland College, said: “I’ve enjoyed the visit and I’m hoping to go into full time employment or onto an apprenticeship within the construction industry in September, real life experiences like this really support my learning”.

Helen Johnson, Livin Futures Manager, said: "It was great to welcome students to Towson Close. Seeing construction practice first hand confirms the learning that has taken place within a workshop/classroom environment. Students would have learned a lot from the experience, supporting their knowledge and understanding of the bricklaying trade. They also gained valuable insights into the importance of social housing and sustainable homes, which are crucial for the current housing demand".
