Newton Aycliffe hairdresser back to business

Self- employed Kimberley Bell, Newton Aycliife is back up and running as a mobile hairdresser following a successful application to receive £500 from the Northern Housing Consortium Unlocking Success Bursary.

Following a tenancy visit with her housing adviser, a referral was made to our Livin Futures team to support Kimberley to get back into the work she loves, after giving up hairdressing due to relocation.

The Unlocking Success Bursary Scheme, funded by the Northern Housing Consortium, awards bursaries of £500 to help tenants develop learning and skills to support future employment.

Following a successful application process Kimberley received £500 to fund her own hairdressing equipment which she was unable to bring with her when she relocated.

Kimberly said: "Livin listened to my circumstances and understood I was eager to get back into hairdressing and mentioned the NHC Bursary.  This was an opportunity which I wanted to go ahead with, and I was extremely happy to hear that my application had been accepted.
When I received the £500, I ordered supplies to help me start back up. I have since been able to get new clients in my area and have started back up as a self-employed hairdresser."

Lisa Newham, Livin Futures Adviser said: "It was great to be able to support Kimberly and her business get back on track. She had a well-established business before having to relocate to the North-East and securing this bursary has allowed her to purchase her own equipment and take steps to get back to doing what she loves once again."
