A yellow weather warning of rain and snow have been issued this weekend (Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 of November) for parts of our region by the MET Office.
There are some steps you can take to make sure you are prepared for the bad weather to keep yourself warm and safe
Here's our top 5 tips:
Check your boiler
- Make sure you've turned your boiler on if you haven't already to check its working correctly
- Check your thermostat is in working order
- Make sure you're in credit (if you've got meters)
Clear any walkways
- Clear away any leaves that could cause you to slip and fall
- Try to keep your pathways clear on a regular basis
- Wear boots or shoes that have a grippy sole if you do need to leave you home
Keep your home warm
- Draught excluders can be used to stop heat escaping and draughts getting in
- Close your curtains as soon as it gets dark outside to keep the heat in
- If you can, keep your thermostat at the lowest comfortable temperature, recommended between 18°C and 21°C
- Try turning them up in rooms you use often and down in those you don’t
- Move furniture away from radiators
Keeping yourself warm
- Have regular hot drinks and food
- Make sure you have enough food and medicine in if you'd prefer not to be out and about in the cold
- Wear warm clothes that you can layer to keep you warm
Stay up to date
- Check local news or the MET Office for updates on weather warnings
