Our sustainability apprentice Olly Race welcomed two work experience students this week to gain valuable insight into energy efficient improvements in social housing.
Carmen Hope and and Declin Spurr each studying architectural design and surveying at Gateshead College joined Olly on a solar PV installation site at Bowness Grove, Ferryhill to observe the real-world impact of our sustainability work.
Olly started his sustainability apprenticeship in November 2022, and has gained first hand experience on projects including installing solar panels, LED lighting, cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, and Smart Airbricks. Thanks to these efforts, over 93% of homes now have an EPC rating of C or above.
Olly, Sustainability Apprentice, said; "During my apprenticeship I have enjoyed the diversity in the type of work I have undertaken, there has been a good balance between on-site and off-site duties. With this apprenticeship being the first of its kind I have enjoyed being able to shape the role for future apprentices and be part of the wider decarbonisation initiative".
