Supporting Sustainable Places
We are determined to level up our places. We will enable and deliver strong and sustainable places, that are greener and that support people and partners to thrive. We are a unique anchor in local communities that can bring about amazing transformation through physical regeneration, supplying new affordable homes, getting people into employment and bringing communities together.
We will level up by directing and driving in more investment, harnessing new and existing partnerships, and listening and responding to community voices. This strategy builds on our strength in delivering levelling up by placemaking, building social capital and pride, contributing to economic sustainability and urgently addressing the climate emergency in communities.
Objective 13: Deliver place-based economic, social and physical regeneration to balance and sustain places
To do this we will :
+ Deliver place-based economic, social and physical regeneration on Jubilee Fields Estate, Shildon, to sustain the community, improve “pride in place” and transform the housing offer
+ Deliver place-based economic, social and physical regeneration on the Western Estate, Newton Aycliffe to sustain the community, improve “pride in the place” and transform the housing offer
+ Use community plan data and insight to facilitate and deliver sustainable growth in existing, new and emerging places to ensure placemaking is proactive and evidence based
+ Develop and implement a new approach to mixed tenure in placemaking to sustain and regenerate communities
Objective 14: Enable the delivery of projects that maximise social capital in places, making them sustainable, connected and inclusive
To do this we will :
+ Enable social isolation and loneliness interventions that support our younger, older and vulnerable residents to feel more connected
+ Improve community safety by effective partnership working that prevents, manages and resolves incidences of anti-social behaviour and neighbourhood nuisance
+ Enhance social capital in places to build resilience and to ensure residents feel included and in control
Objective 16: Deliver and enable environmental initiatives that improve our neighbourhoods and support places to be more environmentally sustainable
To do this we will :
+ Deliver physical environmental improvements to focus communities to improve the perception of places and increase biodiversity
+ Enable community based environmental projects that will support sustainability and increase awareness
+ Develop and deliver place-based interventions in collaboration with like-minded partners that tackle the neighbourhood issues prioritised by tenants and customers
